Commission raises EU growth forecasts

The European Commission on Tuesday raised its forecast for European economic growth next year, but said the recovery from recession would come at the price of record-high budget deficits and public debt.

Economic forecast

In its six-monthly economic outlook, the Commission predicted that the 27-nation European Union would grow by 0.7 per cent next year and 1.6 per cent in 2011, after a slump of 4.1 per cent in gross domestic product this year.
