Police blogger loses anonymity fight

A police officer who won a writers' award for his anonymous blog lost a legal fight yesterday to keep his identity secret, in a key test case of internet confidentiality rights.

The high court threw out an attempt by Richard Horton, a detective constable, to stop The Times newspaper from naming him as the author of the cult Night Jack blog, which won praise for its realistic account of frontline policing and its critique of the criminal justice system.
