Restrictions set to keep rice prices high

World rice prices are forecast to remain high this year, in spite of a record global crop, because of export restrictions and rising consumption, the UN's Food and Agriculture Organisation said yesterday.

Rice prices have risen 76 per cent this year, and following the cyclone damage in Burma have been climbing back to the record levels reached in April.
