Tweaks but little threat to Big Four role

The essence of the latest big official probe into supermarkets can be summed up in two words: the “good deal” that the Competition Commission thinks the industry is offering consumers.

The broadly positive conclusion highlights how the commission’s work is a tweaking of the terms of engagement between the Big Four supermarkets, rather than a threat to their collective pre-eminence.
