DoJ opens criminal probe into CIA tapes

The Department of Justice has launched a criminal investigation into the destruction by Central Intelligence Agency officials of taped interrogations of terror suspects.

In a rare public announcement of a criminal probe, Michael Mukasey, attorney-general, said he had concluded that an investigation was warranted on the recommendation of the Justice Department’s national security division, which had conducted a preliminary inquiry into the incident.
