Bundesbank on defensive after regime change at ECB

Less than a decade ago, such scenes would have been unimaginable.

Officials from Germany’s Bundesbank are holding urgent talks over cuts to staff entitlements demanded by the finance ministry. Under the proposals – described as “draconian” by Axel Weber, Bundesbank president – bonuses to Bundesbank officials would be cut from 19 per cent of basic wages to 5 per cent, or zero for some workers.
