Benn cultivates plans to guard nation’s soil

Construction and other industries face increasing regulation over removing soil from land under a set of proposals aimed at preserving the quality of the UK’s soil.

More land will be cleaned of contaminants and the use of peat – common in horticulture – will come under review, according to proposals unveiled by the government on Thursday.
