Crown left tarnished by spending spree

Flush with cash after selling media assets at the peak of the cycle in 2007, Crown, the Australian-listed casinos group controlled by James Packer, went on an ill-timed international expansion spree.

Crown’s recent results were littered with red ink, including an annual net loss of A$1.2bn ($1.05bn) and writedowns totalling A$1.44bn on its inter­national portfolio.
