Lebanon has worst day as 64 die in raids

Lebanon yesterday suffered its worst day of violence since Israel began its bombardment last week with at least 64 people killed in air strikes. All but one of the dead were civilians.

In spite of increased calls for a cessation of the violence Ehud Olmert, the Israeli prime minister, ruled out a ceasefire and reiterated that the Lebanese offensive would last "as long as necessary".
