US jobs growth weaker than expected

The US economy generated a lower-than-expected 56,000 jobs in October with gains in construction offsetting job losses in leisure and food services. Economists had been expecting a rise in employment of more than 100,000 jobs.

Unemployment was little changed at 5 per cent.
