Venezuela has slammed a US Congress report released this week that criticises its efforts to combat drug trafficking, rejecting the study as designed to discredit President Hugo Chávez and sabotage attempts to improve relations with the new US administration.
In a letter seen by The Financial Times, Venezuela’s US ambassador, Bernardo Alvarez, questions the independence of the General Accountability Office report, observing that it relies almost entirely on information from US administration officials.
