HK dollar soars to fresh heights

The yen may be well known as Asia’s best-performing currency against the dollar during the turmoil of the past three months. It has been the region’s safe haven as investors pulled out of risky emerging markets and put their money into yen.

However, the next best foreign exchange performer among Asia’s leading currencies is the Hong Kong dollar: a surprising contender given that for the past 25 years it has been pegged to the US dollar.
