Oil tips above $48 on violence in Middle East

Oil prices rose above $48 a barrel on Monday amid mounting violence in the Middle East as the fighting between Israel and Hamas escalated.

Nymex February West Texas Intermediate rose $1 to $47.34 a barrel after touching a high of $48.68. ICE February Brent gained $1.25 cents to $48.16 a barrel after reaching a high of $48.71.
