The head of China Mobile on Tuesday warned that mobile phone operators must change to face the challenge of new wireless service models pushed by handset makers and internet companies.

Wang Jianzhou, chairman of the world’s largest mobile operator by subscribers, said he was confident operators’ relationships with subscribers meant they would retain control of a significant part of the wireless value chain. However, he said they would have to change their business model.
