Online readers recruited to tackle slush pile

The “wisdom of the masses” is being tapped on the internet in a bid to solve the publishing industry’s bottleneck in discovering new authors.

HarperCollins is the latest publisher to make the foray into social networking sites by encouraging would-be authors to upload sample chapters to Authonomy.com, a website that launches to the public on Wednesday.
