Macarthur Coal holds takeover talks

Macarthur Coal, a producer of coking coal, has emerged as the latest hot takeover prospect in Australian resources following an approach from an unnamed party.

Shares in Macarthur rose as much as 17 per cent after the miner, which has a market capitalisation of A$3bn (US$2.8bn), confirmed the talks, which were incomplete, non-binding and conditional.
