US trade deficit widens in April

The US trade gap widened in April for the second month running, as exports fell faster than imports reflecting a continued slump in global demand.

The trade deficit grew by 2.4 per cent from March to $29.2bn, the commerce department said on Wednesday. The figure was in line with economists’ expectations and marked the second straight month that the deficit swelled after hitting a 10-year low in February.
