Data and disaster relief lift the dollar

The US dollar staged a modest fightback on Tuesday as the negative sentiment stemming from the effects of Hurricane Katrina began to fade.

Oil prices have stabilised as several countries have released stocks from their inventories. Production was also restarted at some of the oil platforms and refineries that suffered relatively minor damage in the hurricane, helping to reduce prices and calm nerves.
