Sony will allow PlayStation 3 users in Europe to download movies through their consoles from today, stepping up its battle with Microsoft over consoles.
Both companies are beefing up the functions on their consoles to make them appeal to a wider audience, and in an attempt to establish them as the entertainment hub in people's living rooms. Earlier this week Microsoft announced that it was extending its Zune video and music service outside the US for the first time, and making it available through its XBox 360 console.
