European shares tumble to six-year low

European shares slipped to a six-year low yesterday as positive earnings figures from German groups Henkel and Deutsche Börse failed to anchor the wider market.

Europe looked set to end four sessions of losses after the positive market reaction to Tuesday’s comments from Ben Bernanke, chairman of the Federal Reserve, suggesting that no leading US banks would need to be nationalised.
