Valentino, known for its sweeping gowns, has come a long way since former Fendi accessories designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli joined in 1999 to boost the brand’s weak accessories business.
Last year handbags and shoes made up about 25 per cent of Valentino’s sales. There was even a sprinkling of celebrity stardust after Zahara Jolie-Pitt was photographed carrying a small Valentino Histoire bag, made to match one owned by her mother, Angelina Jolie.
