Russia warns of Estonia tension

Russia warned on Thursday that tensions with Estonia could rise still further in coming days, following outbreaks of violence in both countries, even as Estonia expressed its hope that relations were now becoming calmer.

Vladimir Chizhov, Russia’s envoy to the European Union, told the Financial Times he could not exclude that protests at Estonia’s decision to move a Soviet war memorial would reach a peak on May 9 – the day Russia celebrates its victory over Nazi Germany.
