Kindle turns a new page

Digital history is littered with failed attempts to produce a viable “electronic book” with even half the appeal of a poor paperback.

Until this week the most successful was the Sony Reader PSR-505, a sleek and beautifully designed device now priced at $279 in the US, where it went on sale just over a year ago.
