Bird flu alert after swans die in Dorset

A bird flu alert was sparked on Thursday after three swans found dead on a nature reserve in Dorset tested positive for the virulent H5N1 strain.

Checks are under way to determine whether other birds in the Chesil Beach area are infected after the mute swans were discovered at the Abbotsbury Swannery, near Weymouth.
