Broad weakness across resources sectors kept Asian stock markets under pressure on Wednesday as commodity prices continued to suffer from global recession fears.

In Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 Average fell 1.3 per cent to 8,695.51 while the broader Topix lost 1.6 per cent to 875.23.
