Large class action settlements to persist

Large settlements are likely to persist in the US for several years as class action lawsuits resulting from the 2000-2002 bear market are finalised, according to a report by NERA Economic Consulting.

The $6.1bn settlement in the WorldCom case, concluded over the last few months, set a new record. The previous high of $3.5bn was set in 1999 after accounting irregularities at Cendant, the travel company.
