The financial crisis is a great opportunity to strengthen British science, Lord Drayson, the new science minister, said yesterday. He urged scientists who went into the City - and are now facing an insecure future - to think of switching to careers in science teaching or science-based business.
In his third day as science minister, Lord Drayson, a former biotechnology entrepreneur, said: "Like many chief executives of science-based companies, I suffered from scientists going into the City because they were paid more. My message to them is: You have been a rocket scientist in the City, now become a real scientist again."
