Sarkozy in drive to hold ECB to account

President Nicolas Sarkozy is drawing up plans to boost the political accountability of the European Central Bank, underlining his determination to speak out about the conduct of monetary policy.

The French president has urged political leaders in the eurozone to engage in a more open debate with the bank and is preparing a three-point plan to underpin the dialogue.
