Institutional investors control an increasing share of the market for leveraged loans in Europe and now buy almost half of all new loans issued, according to data from S&P LCD, the loan market information service.
Hedge funds and managers of structured loan products, which make up most of the institutional category, bought 48 per cent of the non-investment grade loans sold in the year to September, which is up from 40 per cent at the end of last year.
