Crude oil prices saw a highly volatile session on Wednesday as traders weighed US data showing a big jump in crude stocks and a large fall in petrol inventories last week that partly reflected supply disruptions caused by tropical storm Edouard.

Nymex September West Texas Intermediate, which expired on Wednesday, touched a session high of $117.03 before tumbling below $113 to a session low of $112.61. It rallied again, however, to close 45 cents higher at $114.98.
