Regal Petroleum, the Aim-listed oil and gas group, yesterday won a court battle for control of important Ukrainian gasfields, sending its shares up 15 per cent.

But the victory will result in a large number of Regal shares being awarded to a little-known Ukrainian businessman who helped it win the case.
