Car industry rejects move to curb oil addiction

George W. Bush offered numerous proposals in his State of the Union address to reduce the US's dependence on oil imports.

But the president's list did not include the strategy that many experts believe could have the biggest impact of all: cooling Americans' long love affair with the automobile.
