UK Top business leaders will discuss London’s “livability” next month, at the first meeting of a committee set up by Boris Johnson that is aimed at “securing the capital’s position as a top capital city”.
The London mayor’s creation of a 50-strong international business advisory council follows attempts by cities such as Tokyo to try to make themselves more attractive. Part of the competition between the world’s top international cities is over how to make personal lives as easy as possible for foreign executives – the so-called “livability” issue. London has clear advantages, such as well-regarded private schools and a world-famous cultural life. However, it also has weak points, such as unreliable public transport.
