Airline industry warns on ID card costs

Airlines and airport operators on Wednesday warned the government that its plans to roll-out ID cards in the industry threaten to increase costs for passengers without bringing significant security benefits.

The British Air Transport Association said recent talks with Home Office officials had failed to secure support from the industry for plans to have thousands of airport workers become the first British nationals to be issued with new biometric cards by autumn next year.
