Aircraft noise hits more than admitted, says study

Environmental and residents groups campaigning against the expansion of Heathrow airport claimed yesterday that research commissioned by the government had shown that millions more people were affected by aircraft noise than previously admitted.

The transport department yesterday published the findings of an independent study it commissioned six years ago into public attitudes to aircraft noise, but said that despite the years of work the study had concluded it was "impossible to identify any particular level at which noise becomes a serious problem".
