Nuclear plant closure delayed

A nuclear reactor that was scheduled to shut down on New Year's Eve has been given an extended lease of life, easing fears of power shortages next year.

But Greenpeace, the environmental pressure group, said yesterday that the 40-year-old Magnox reactor at Oldbury in Gloucestershire was a threat to health that should be closed immediately.
