Obama warns push for US-Iran dialogue faces postponement in wake of Tehran crackdown

Barack Obama warned yesterday that his plans to talk directly to Iran may be put on hold because of Tehran's crackdown on demonstrators protesting over this month's election result.

On a day when Russia also toughened its stance towards Iran, the US president said Tehran's "outrageous" hounding of protesters raised questions about Washington's push to establish bilateral contacts with the Islamic Republic.
