Mexicans say plot to kill president thwarted

Mexican police said on Monday they had arrested drug gangsters who were plotting to assassinate Felipe Calderón, the president.

Dimas Díaz, the alleged leader of the plot, and four of his accomplices were presented at a press conference in Mexico City. All five had been arrested the previous day in the north-western state of Sinaloa, said Ramón Pequeño, head of the federal anti-drugs unit.
