Saudi Arabia signed a long-awaited trade deal with the US on Friday, as the conservative Islamic kingdom’s bid to join the World Trade Organisation (WTO) overcame one of its last major hurdles.
The bilateral agreement between Opec’s largest oil producer and the world’s largest economy follows five months of intense negotiations, which included a personal visit to Washington in April by Abdullah Al Saud; the Saudi king since the death of King Fahd last month.
