The death toll of Palestinians killed in 19 days of violence since Israel launched its offensive in the Gaza Strip climbed towards 1,000 on Wednesday.
Palestinian medical sources contacted by news agencies said that 984 people, many of them children, had died since Israeli tanks and warplanes started striking targets inside Gaza on December 27.
