Pakistan: Demand surge in sight

Abdul Qayyum paused for a moment to reflect on the future of Pakistan’s steel demand before proclaiming: “it has to grow very rapidly, our economy is growing”.

As chairman of the government-owned, Karachi-based Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) – the country’s largest steel manufacturing factory – Mr Qayyum, a retired lieutenant-general, is credited with overseeing the turnaround of his company to profitability after recurring losses.
