It is doubtful that the original citizens of Corinth, despite having lent their name to a spirit of glorious amateurism, ever had to pick themselves up out of ankle-deep mud and face freezing rain and a rampant Rosslyn Park pack.
That is par for the course for Richmond FC, one of the few clubs in England’s national leagues to have cheerfully embraced non-professional status and pledged to rise as high as the Corinthian spirit will take them.
