Asia sinks to lowest level this year

Asia Pacific shares fell to some of their lowest levels this year, taking their lead from a fall on Wall Street overnight on worries that losses due to the credit crisis continue to mount.

Banks were hit worst across the region after Lehman Brothers said Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the two biggest sources of finance for home mortgages, might have to raise an extra $75bn of funds between them because of accounting changes.
