Motorola is to cut another 4,000 jobs, over and above the 3,000 redundancies it announced in October, as a further deterioration in its mobile handset business led the telecoms company to predict a fourth-quarter loss.
The group now expects a net loss from continuing operations of 7-8 cents per share, rather than the net profit of 2-4 cents it predicted less than three months ago and analysts’ consensus expectations for a 1 cent loss.
