India steps up telecoms licence probe

Indian government investigators on Thursday raided the country’s Department of Telecommunications as part of an investigation into alleged “serious irregularities” during the sale last year of telecom licences to domestic private sector operators.

The Central Bureau of Investigation, India’s federal criminal investigation agency, did not name the government officials or companies allegedly involved in the case, or say how many people or entities were being investigated.
