An unflattering comparison to the Roman emperor Nero was the last thing John Howard needed a week before Australia's federal election.
The prime minister awoke yesterday to find that Bill McHarg, founder of a property company, had taken out a full-page newspaper advertisement saying: "For 11 years Howard has fiddled. Now Australia burns."
