King comments send sterling climbing

Sterling rose against the dollar and the euro Tuesday after hawkish comments from Mervyn King, governor of the Bank of England.

Mr King said that medium-term risks remained to the Bank’s inflation target from higher earnings, capacity constraints and money and credit growth. He added that UK interest rates would have to rise still further unless those pressures were reined in.
