Boeing on Tuesday night remained in the competition for a $35bn contract to provide refuelling tankers to the US Air Force after a meeting with officials from the US Department of Defense.

There had been speculation the Chicago-based aerospace company could pull out of the competition after the government issued new guidelines last week.
