Telecom Italia was last night expected to sell its stake in Brasil Telecom, one ofBrazil's biggest fixed and mobile telephone operators.

A sale would bring an end to a decade-long dispute that has seen the Italian company fall out with co-investors including Brazilian pension funds and Citigroup of the US.
