Brown bears good news to Sarkozy on treaty

Gordon Brown travels to Paris and Brussels on Thursday for talks designed to save the EU Lisbon treaty, bearing news that Britain has finally passed legislation to ratify the controversial text.

The bill to enact the Lisbon treaty completed its final parliamentary stages on Wednesday, surviving a sabotage operation by the Conservatives who want to stop ratification, following Ireland’s rejection of the treaty.
